Q&A: Death and Dying in the Modern Age-Keire Johnson

Keire Johnson

Musician/Skateboarder

Arizona

How old do you want to live to be?
80

Do you have a fantasy funeral?
I’d want a few bands to play at my funeral

What scares you the most about dying?
Letting down anyone depending on me

What would your 3 pieces of wisdom be for the those left behind?
Be kind; do what you love, count your blessings

If you had a destination funeral where would it be?
My hometown, Rockford, Illinois

Where would you want your ashes spread?
I think it would be cool to mix my ashes into some concrete and build a skate-able memorial or something like that.

Top 5 songs to play at your funeral?
I can’t think of any songs that I’d want to play at my funeral, probably something funky and dance-y so people aren’t sitting around sad. As for bands, I’d want my friends who play music to play my funeral. Friends are my biggest inspirations.

Open casket wake? Burial? Cremation?

Cremation, the open casket thing is really weird to me.

If you could live forever, would you want to?
For me, it depends on the terms and conditions but more than likely I’d jump at the opportunity.

Where do you think you go once you die?
I think our body stays here and we just dream forever.

If there is a heaven, who are 3 people you would like to hang out with there?
I personally believe that no one but animals and babies go to heaven so if I got to go, I’d be really confused haha

Do you believe in ghosts?
Yes, I believe that something so traumatic could happen to you that when you die, you just get trapped here.

If reincarnation is real, what do you want to come back as?
Another black baby because this life is dope

What are three words you hope people use to describe you when you are gone?
funny, talented & wise

Biggest regret in life?
Letting teachers in high school convince me that I was stupid

Q&A: Death and Dying in the Modern Age- Sarah Tafoya

Even though it is the end of my road, it’s an ongoing journey for everyone else I leave behind so I want to leave them in a graceful way.

Do beautiful things and don’t tell anyone about it, like reading poetry in the park by yourself or watching the moon set into the ocean. It can never be taken from you.

Q&A: Death and Dying in the Modern Age- Amber Carvaly

Don’t live as if there is “no tomorrow, cuz if there is one you’ll deal with those consequences!” But live today in a way where you are not worried about what other people are going to say about you tomorrow.
