Q&A: Death and Dying in the Modern Age- Jodi Sweetbaum

Jodi Sweetbaum

Cutchogue, NY/NYC

How old do you want to live to be?
Well, my psychic said I will die when I’m 80.  That seems just too young.  I would go to 90 or so.
Do you have a fantasy funeral?
Yes - a memorial party - with Indian food, peach pie with vanilla ice cream, lots of kids running around
What scares you the most about dying?
Causing any pain and suffering to my family, missing out
What would your 3 pieces of wisdom be for the those left behind?
The world is big and you are a part of it - live it.  Be kind, it comes back to you.  Find what makes you happy and content. Be connected to people. (Thats 4)
If you had a destination funeral where would it be?
Somewhere by the blue blue sea.
Where would you want your ashes spread?
The blue blue sea and with my family
If you could live forever, would you want to?
No, not with how the world is going
Where do you think you go once you die?
I don’t know and I take comfort in that, something bigger than me.
Do you believe in ghosts?
Yes!
If reincarnation is real what do you want to come back as?
Someone really good
What are three words you hope people use to describe you when you are gone?
Kind. Open. I grew.
Biggest regret in life?
Not being as brave sooner.

Even though it is the end of my road, it’s an ongoing journey for everyone else I leave behind so I want to leave them in a graceful way.

Do beautiful things and don’t tell anyone about it, like reading poetry in the park by yourself or watching the moon set into the ocean. It can never be taken from you.

Don’t live as if there is “no tomorrow, cuz if there is one you’ll deal with those consequences!” But live today in a way where you are not worried about what other people are going to say about you tomorrow.
