Megan Leigh Galloway-Cole

In Remembrance
September 8, 1995 - November 17, 2023

Megan Leigh Galloway-Cole, 28, of Astoria, New York passed away unexpectedly on November 17, 2023 as the result of a sudden cardiac event.

Megan was born on September 8, 1995 to Dr. Michael and Stacey Galloway in Dayton, Ohio. A decorated scholar athlete, Megan graduated from Greenville High School in Greenville, Ohio before beginning her college career as a basketball player at University of Detroit Mercy and finishing her time at Miami University with the RedHawk women’s basketball team.

After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Social Justice from Miami University, Megan moved to New York City and attended New York Law School. In 2022, she received her Juris Doctorate and began working as an attorney for the New York Law Department.

In 2022, Megan married her wife, Mackenzie Galloway-Cole, at a ceremony in Astoria, New York. They wed in the neighborhood where they met and built their life together.

Megan had an unparalleled love for life, and she poured her soul into every interest she explored. She found and developed a strong community everywhere she went, from Greenville to Miami University to New York City. Her lifelong love of basketball was infectious, and she was passionate about women in sports. She was an avid reader, and she found simple joy in playing the daily New York Times word games over a cup of coffee. She made friends with animals everywhere she went, and they could always sense her warmth. Megan had the biggest smile, the best laugh, and the most comforting hug.

She is survived by her wife, Mackenzie Galloway-Cole, her parents, Michael and Stacey Galloway, her siblings, Craig (Brianne) Galloway, Aimee (Nicholas) Kraft, Kimberlee (Darren) Leis, and Joshua Galloway, her grandmothers Bonnie Galloway and Anita Steinert, her great-grandmother Mary Margaret Kadel, her seven cherished nieces and nephews, and many other members of her large and loving family.

A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, December 2 in Astoria, New York at The Ditty, located at 3503 Ditmars Blvd, Queens, NY 11105. In lieu of flowers, Megan’s family would appreciate donations for a scholarship fund set up in her honor. The Megan L Galloway-Cole Memorial Scholarship Fund will support female student athletes at Greenville High School looking to pursue higher education. I was lucky enough to meet...

I was lucky enough to meet Megan in law school. She was bright, enthusiastic, so damn smart, and so happy. Hanging out with her was like looking at the sun. Just a bundle of good. She made herself my friend and I’ve never been luckier than to have had the chance for her to be in my life. I will never forget her. A brilliant lawyer, an amazing athlete, and the best kind of friend someone could have.

From Pat,

Megan was a role model and inspiration to everyone that was lucky enough to meet her. I’m so grateful that her family invited us to watch her basketball game in California. Our kids still vividly remember how fierce of a competitor she was and had so much fun cheering her on. We will all remember the impressive goals Megan achieved but most importantly remember her kindness. We will always remember Megan as an impressive member of our family. Keeping her and the entire family in our thoughts and prayers.

From de Best family,

I met Megan a few years...

I met Megan a few years ago when she came to California with her mom, she was such a great person, friendly, and happy . She also reached out to me to ask for pictures of her mom and me for a scrapbook she was doing for her moms birthday. She will be missed ❤️

From Stacey Cochrane,

I’ve known Megan since she was just under a year old. Her mom and I met and became fast friends. From the beginning Megan was a joyful little one to watch grow up and then watching from afar she blossomed into a beautiful young woman. What a testimony of her love of life that she has touched so many lives and is going to be greatly missed by so many.
