Obituary
A man of profound integrity, unwavering service, and limitless warmth, Louis Wilson Colon II, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, leaving behind a legacy built entirely by his own two hands and an exceptionally generous heart. Cherished by all who knew him, he lived a life rooted in deep principles, treating every soul he encountered with genuine kindness and respect.

Born in the beautiful hills of Ponce, Puerto Rico, he moved to Brooklyn as a boy with his mother and father Luis Wilson Colon and Carmen Susanna Colon Torres and his siblings Lily, Ramon, Carmen and Lourdes, growing up in the vibrant neighborhood of Park Slope. He discovered a passion for craft and creation early on, studying carpentry at Eli Whitney High School. That foundational spirit of building and protecting followed him into adulthood. He proudly stepped up to serve his country in the United States Air Force as a Fire Protection Specialist, earning an honorable discharge in 1975. His dedication to keeping others safe continued through his civilian life, where he served with bravery and pride as a Federal firefighter for the Coast Guard Fire Station, Ladder 1, rising through the ranks to retire as a respected Fire Captain. Even after his official retirement from the line, his commitment to his community never wavered, and he continued his vital work protecting others as a Fire Inspector for the FDNY.

While building his career, he was also building the true foundation of his life: his family. In 1971, he married the love of his life, Marta Colon. Together, they shared a beautiful journey of devotion and partnership. They raised three children who were his absolute pride and joy: Jenifer Lynn, Louis W. Colon III, and Jason Louis Colon.

He was a man who understood that a house is just structure, but a home is made of love. He built a home for his family—both figuratively and literally with his own skilled hands. The doors to that home were always wide open. Anyone who walked through was welcomed with open arms, genuine acceptance, and a chef-level meal that brought everyone together around the table.

His devotion extended far beyond his immediate family. A faithful member of the Queen of All Saints Church, he was a pillar of his neighborhood, serving with pride for many years as the President of the Hart Street Block Association. He believed deeply in community, taking the time to serve as a mentor and role model to countless individuals. He taught by example, instilling the value of hard work, the importance of maintaining strong relationships, and the absolute necessity of pausing—no matter how hard life gets—to enjoy the people you love.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marta; his children, Jenifer, Louis III, and Jason. His son and daugher in Laws, Alexander Norman, Kathryn Colon and Kathryn Hallock ; His Grandchildren Noah Jacob Norman, Nyah Sophia Norman and Louis Wilson Colon IV and a community of friends, neighbors, and extended family whose lives are permanently shaped by his wisdom. The lessons he taught will truly last a lifetime.
